Hugless Douglas

By David Melling

Douglas is a bear who wakes up after a long winter’s sleep in need of a hug. He goes in search of one but none seem quite right, they are either too small, too wriggly or too uncomfortable. Suddenly Douglas meets a bear who can give him the hug he so desperately seeks – it’s his mum of course! The humour is the great selling point here. The expressions on the faces of the 'hugged' animals are extremely funny. The cartoon style illustrations suit the fun storyline very well. As well as a really entertaining story it could be used in educational terms to promote discussions about comparisons.
