Non-Fiction Reading Cards


This colourful and flexible resource consists of 7 boxes of A4-sized laminated cards covering 50 non-fiction topics. Each box is available separately.There is a box plus CD rom for each year from FS to Year 6. In each box, there are three copies of each topic card for use by individual children or in small groups. In addition there are 7 teachers' cards which cover content, cross-curricular links, record and assessment, and a list of the additional resources and equipment for doing some of the extended activities. The topic-cards are colour coded for reading difficulty. The CD-Rom contains PDFs of all the cards so they can be used with an interactive white board. However, the CD-Rom at FS also has audio facility so that the text is read aloud.The brightly coloured cards cover a wide variety of interesting and unusual subjects including themes relating to other cultures and beliefs. For instance, Box 5 includes cards as diverse as : Is There Life on Mars?; Neighbourhood Watch; Make a Dreidel; The Beatles; The Statue of Liberty; Computer Games; Gypsy Travellers; Caving; The Taj Mahal; Buddhism; and Football Crazy! On the front, there is text about the subject with an 'Amazing' box giving a fantastic fact and a 'Question Time' box for comprehension. On the back, Boris Bug, Sid Spider and Coco Caterpillar lead the children through extended learning activities. The carrying box is sturdy making this attractive resource easy to transport and store.
