Oxford Reading Tree: Introduction Pack

Oxford Reading Tree (ORT) is a well-established, high-quality, graded and colour banded comprehensive reading programme including fiction, non-fiction and poetry. There is a substantial range of supporting material including finger puppets of the ORT characters, audio books, games, comprehension cards, work books, photocopiable work sheets, song books and CDs, a teachers' handbook and so on. Several strands of ORT are reviewed separately on this site - Oxford Reading Tree:Time Chronicles and Oxford Reading Tree: Project X. A new addition to ORT is:

Oxford Reading Tree

: Introduction Pack

The Introduction Pack has been developed to introduce teachers to a new phonics-based strand of the well established and popular Oxford Reading Tree programme. The Pack includes some of the new and updated books from each of the elements that make up this latest strand:

Floppy’s Phonics Sounds and Letters (Stage 1 & Stage 1+)

Floppy’s Phonics Fiction and Floppy’s Phonics Non-fiction (Stage 1+)

Biff, Chip and Kipper Decode and Develop (Stage 1 & Stage 1+)

Biff, Chip and Kipper First Sentences (Stage 1+)

The books are presented in the usual lively and attractive manner that is one of the hallmarks of the Oxford Reading Tree. The inside front and back covers are used to provide information and ideas to those reading with the child.

In addition, in the Pack there is a very useful Teacher’s Overview, describing how these new materials fit in with the rest of the Oxford Reading Tree programme, as well as giving very clear guidance to teachers on getting the most out of the materials. There is also a Wall Chart illustrating how the materials link together to provide a carefully structured introduction to phonics for beginner readers, and the sequence in which the materials can most effectively be presented.

The Pack will be of particular interest to schools that already use the Oxford Reading Tree, but it will also be of interest to other teachers who are looking to expand their phonic resources.
