Popcorn: Series

Description

Popcorn is an extensive non-fiction series of more than 50 titles with a history, science, geography and citzenship/pshe strand. They include titles such as History Corner: Florence Nightingale; In Space: Planets; Countries: Poland; and People Who Help Us: Doctors. They are bright and vibrant with simple text on colourful backgrounds and plenty of photographs. There are cross-curricular activities in each of the books. A recent addition - Popcorn: In the Past is a series of 4 books – House and Home, School, Seaside Holidays and Toys, which help young children to understand the past by contrasting it with the present. The different times are made more apparent by black and white photography being used for the past and today’s photos being in full colour. Each black and white photo has a date on it, so that the children develop a sense of the timeline over the last 100 years or so. For instance, the photos in Seaside Holiday run from a scene in Scarborough in 1891 to Eastbourne pier as it looks today. There are free photocopiable downloads available to accompany the Popcorn series from the Wayland site.
