The Story Spinner

This is a series of seven DVDs, each of which is aimed at a specific year group between Reception and Year 6. Professional actor and story teller Phil McDermott tells a series of stories to camera – no visual trickery or accompanying images - just excellent, highly engaging story telling. Both the choice and length of stories have been tailored to the year groups, e.g. Jack & Jill is as short as seven minutes on the Reception DVD whereas Inn of the Donkeys is 24 minutes on the Year Five resource. In Year 6, two stories are told from three different viewpoints. There are six stories on each DVD including myths and legends, traditional fairy tales and stories from different cultures.  Each DVD comes with supporting literature such as background on the stories and suggested ideas for use.  The DVDs can be purchased individually but best value is seen in the whole box set. There is great potential to use the resource for a wide variety of purposes including simple enjoyment; it particularly lends itself to work around improving writing through oracy.

There is, at extra cost, an accompanying ‘The Story Spinner Learning’ DVD and CD-Rom with resources for teachers. See separate entry.
